Short Term Breaks

The university has three major short-term breaks: Fall/Thanksgiving recess, Winter Recess, Spring Break.

Approximately one month before any given break, residence hall students will receive a "Closing Notice" outlining important information regarding hall closing in their area.

During short term breaks:

For Residence Halls:

Break halls are Richmond Quad, Red Jacket Quad, Clinton Hall, Clement Hall, and Schoellkopf Hall If staying in a break hall, sign up in your area office 7 days in advance, additional nightly rates apply

Area Offices:

Limited housing is available for those living in a non-break hall. This housing will be in a group living situation in the Ellicott Complex. Additional fees apply and you must sign up at the Ellicott Area Office, 123 Richmond Quad 7 days in advance of the break. You must go to the Ellicott Area Office to pick up a key for the break.

End-of-the-Year Closing

Both apartment and residence hall students will receive written information on checking out. For residence hall students, closing is the Friday prior to graduation weekend. For apartment students, closing is based on your lease/contract end date.

Prior to the deadline given, you must return furniture to a suitable layout, clean your room or apartment, and check out at the village office. In the residence halls, there will be a designated check out station located in your hall during peak check out times.

The checkout process includes completing a mail forwarding card and handing in your keys. Your room and apartment will be inspected after your departure for damage billing. We review room condition reports and apartment records prior to final billing. Please alert a Residential Life or Apartment staff member if we should be aware of specific damage.
