Process

The University at Buffalo offers 2 different housing options for students; Residence Halls and Apartments. Each requires a separate application as described below. All applications are submitted on-line. If you are unable to view the application online or unable to make an online payment, please contact the Campus Living Residential Operations Office.

Residence Halls

Located on both the North and South Campus, UB Residence Halls are open to all students. Residence Hall contracts are for 2 semester (fall and spring). To apply for Residence Hall housing:

New/Incoming (to UB) Students

  1. Submit $150 tuition AND $300 housing* deposits by May 1/(Dec. 1 for spring) or sooner!
    Housing is assigned on a first-come, first-served basis once you submit BOTH your housing* AND tuition deposits (deadline: May 1 for fall; Dec. 1 for spring). No room will be held for you until both deposits are received. To offer all new students the opportunity to experience on-campus living, we have extended our deadline! This offer is available for a limited time only, so we encourage you to apply today as space is going fast.
  2. Submit your room and roommate preferences by May 15 (December 15 for spring)

  3. Assignments are done by the Operations Office and sent out via email in late July/early August (early January for spring).

Current UB Students:

  1. Submit your housing deposit in February and you will receive a personalized Lottery Number.

Apply for Residence Halls

Apartments

UB's five apartment complexes, all located on north campus, and are available to upperclass, graduate, non-traditional students as well as professionals, staff and students with families. Preference is given to those who live the longest on campus. Most apartments are completely furnished and your rent includes all utilities, cable and high-speed Internet (Flickinger Court does not include Utilities). Apartment applications require a $25 non-refundable application fee. Upon being offered an apartment, an additional $450 deposit is required.

Students not currently living in UB Apartments:

  1. Submit your online application (requires $25.00 non-refundable application fee).
  2. Applications submitted between January 17-January 27 will receive a Lottery Number based on class standing and the number of semesters on campus. (About lottery numbers: PDF (178KB) | Word (36KB) ) Applications received after January 27 will be processed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  3. Apartment offers begin being sent out in mid-March first to those with Lottery Numbers, then to those who applied after January 27. Apartment offers will continue throughout the summer until all spaces have been filled.

Students living in UB Apartments:

  1. Fill out your 'Intent to Renew or Vacate' application online in mid-December/early-January.
  2. Once you submit your application, you will be sent assignment information via your 'buffalo.edu' email and will electronically sign your actual contract in early February.
